Wagering Requirements Explained

A bonus is not money until it clears its wagering requirement. That one sentence explains most of the complaints about bonuses, and the arithmetic behind it takes five minutes to learn.

Wagering Requirements Explained

Every bonus arrives with a multiplier attached — 5x, 30x, 40x. That number is the wagering requirement, also called rollover or turnover, and it is the amount you must stake before the bonus and anything won from it can be withdrawn. Until it is met, the balance is a number on a screen.

What a wagering requirement is

It is a turnover target, not a losing target. If you must wager NPR 100,000, that is the total of your stakes — the same NPR 1,000 recycled through a hundred bets meets it, and you can finish ahead or behind while doing so.

The first thing to check is what the multiplier applies to. Bonus only is far better than bonus plus deposit. On a NPR 5,000 deposit with a NPR 5,000 bonus at 30x, bonus-only means NPR 150,000 of turnover; bonus-plus-deposit means NPR 300,000. Same headline offer, twice the work.

Calculating it in NPR

Multiply the bonus amount by the rollover requirement.

Worked examples
NPR 2,000 bonus at 30x
NPR 60,000 to wager
NPR 5,000 bonus at 30x
NPR 150,000 to wager
NPR 5,000 bonus at 40x
NPR 200,000 to wager
NPR 5,000 + 5,000 deposit at 30x
NPR 300,000 to wager

Put that against your normal stake. At NPR 200 a spin, NPR 150,000 of turnover is 750 spins. That is an evening or two for a regular player and a month for a casual one — and the expiry clause does not care which you are.

Game weighting changes everything

Not every game contributes equally, and this is where the real number hides. Typical weightings look like this:

  • Slots — usually 100%. A NPR 100 spin counts as NPR 100.
  • Live casino and table games — often 10% or less. A NPR 100 bet counts as NPR 10.
  • Roulette, blackjack, baccarat — frequently 10%, sometimes excluded entirely.
  • Some jackpot slots — excluded.

At 10% weighting, a NPR 150,000 requirement becomes NPR 1,500,000 of actual betting. That is not a bonus you will clear; it is a bonus you will lose while trying. If you prefer live tables, check the weighting before accepting the offer, not after.

The max-bet clause

Most bonuses cap the stake per bet while wagering — often around NPR 500, sometimes stated as a percentage of the bonus. Exceed it once and the operator can void the bonus and everything won from it. This is the clause that produces the angriest support tickets, because it is enforced automatically and retroactively.

The trap is the autoplay or the feature buy that pushes a single spin over the cap without you noticing. Set your stake under the limit and leave it there for the whole clearing run.

Expiry and the order of play

Bonuses expire — commonly 7 to 30 days. When the clock runs out, unmet wagering means the bonus and any winnings from it are removed. Work out whether you can realistically clear the turnover in the window before you accept.

Check the order of play too. Some operators spend your real balance first, which means you can lose your own deposit before the bonus is ever touched. Others run the bonus first. It changes what your money is exposed to and it is stated in the bonus terms.

Deciding whether to take a bonus

A bonus is worth taking when the rollover requirement is on the bonus only, the multiplier is modest, the weighting matches the games you actually play, and the expiry gives you room at your normal stake. When any of those fail, declining the bonus and playing with withdrawable cash is the better deal.

Say that plainly: you are allowed to decline. A bonus you cannot clear is not free money, it is a lock on your withdrawal. Current terms for each offer are on the bonus page, and the code that unlocks the enhanced version is on the promo code page.

Check the current welcome offer and its wagering terms before you deposit.

The Base Decides Everything

Wagering requirements are quoted as a multiple, and the multiple means nothing without the base it applies to. A 5x rollover requirement on the bonus alone is half the work of the same figure applied to deposit plus bonus, and the headline number is identical in both cases.

Read the base first, every time. It is the single most important line in any set of bonus terms and it is frequently one clause below the number that gets advertised.

Worked in rupees: a 5x rollover requirement on a NPR 10,000 bonus means NPR 50,000 of qualifying stakes. At a typical five percent margin that costs around NPR 2,500 in expected losses to complete, which is the real price of the offer.

Contribution Rates and Minimum Odds

Not every bet counts fully. Bonus terms set a contribution rate per category: slots often count at a hundred percent, live tables at ten, and some markets at nothing. A rollover requirement cleared on live blackjack can take ten times as long as the same figure cleared on slots.

Sports offers use minimum odds instead. Wagering requirements that only count selections above 1.40 rule out the safe bets most people would use to clear them, which raises the real cost of the offer substantially.

Both numbers sit in the same place as the base, and both are omitted from every banner. Any explanation of wagering requirements that skips contribution rates is describing half the mechanism.

Expiry, Caps and What Reaches Your Balance

The clock usually starts when the bonus is credited rather than when it is first used, and thirty days is common while seven is not rare. An offer that expires before the wagering requirements can realistically be met is worth nothing regardless of its size.

Maximum conversion is the last clause and the one that surprises people. It caps what a bonus balance can become, so a large win on bonus funds can shrink to a fixed figure at the moment it converts.

Screenshot the bonus terms on the day you accept an offer. Campaigns are replaced without notice, and a dispute about a rollover requirement is much shorter when the bonus terms are in front of both parties.

Frequently asked questions

What does 30x wagering mean?

You must stake 30 times the bonus amount before it can be withdrawn. A NPR 5,000 bonus at 30x requires NPR 150,000 of total stakes.

Does wagering apply to the bonus or the deposit too?

It depends on the offer. Bonus-only is far better than bonus-plus-deposit, which doubles the turnover for the same headline amount. The terms state which applies.

Why is my wagering progress moving so slowly?

Game weighting. Live casino and table games often count 10% or less, so a NPR 100 bet may only contribute NPR 10 toward the requirement. Slots usually count 100%.

Can a bonus be cancelled if I bet too much on one spin?

Yes. Most bonuses have a max-bet clause while wagering, often around NPR 500. Exceeding it can void the bonus and any winnings, and it is enforced automatically.

What happens when a bonus expires?

The bonus and anything won from it are removed if wagering is not complete. Typical windows run from 7 to 30 days.

Should I always take the welcome bonus?

No. If the multiplier is high, the weighting does not suit the games you play, or the expiry is short, declining and playing with withdrawable cash is the better deal.
